Welcome

Community Health Care Direct (CHCD) provides basic medical support at village level to members of subsistence farming communities in North East Tanzania.

CHCD supplies, trains and operates a network of 250 Village Health Workers (VHW) across an area of approximately 15,000 Square Kilometres providing 350,000 treatments a year.

The medicines are supplied in kit form and allocated to VHW’s for use by them under CHCD supervision. Re-supply is conditional upon the VHW providing records of patients treated, an account of all medicines dispensed and a return of all unused medicines.

CHCD has expanded into prevention through measures including distribution of treated bed nets, AIDS awareness and safe drinking water.

mapBrief history

CHCD established itself in Tanzania in 1994 and has continued to provide unwavering support and an increased quality of life to an ever expanding area.

The system itself is sustainable, self supporting and accountable. It is run at village level by the villagers themselves. CHCD has low administration costs with all funds spent in Tanzania.
